I survived the Northridge Quake with my family on 1/17/1994 at 4:31am. It measured between a 6.7-7.2, and it was 30sec of the most aggressive shaking we’ve ever experienced. The screaming, crying, and fear was paramount, followed by countless breaks in between the major aftershocks that followed throughout the day. This disaster was a wake up call, and we made several changes to our lifestyles, but also how we prepared for future disasters. These are simple steps that have a lasting impact, including securing our interior furniture with using both “baby” and “earthquake” proofing materials and tools, and investing in food and drinking supplies that have a long shelf life. We also invested in getting emergency packs and backpacks from “Ready America” site, and earthquake authority companies and affiliates. After going through another few close calls this week in SoCal, including the aggressive “JOLT” felt on August 12, 2024, Japan’s latest 7.1 megaquake, and Yellowstone’s “Old Faithful” geyser erupting twice, I felt I needed to say something.
I recorded and shared my personal story about the Northridge Earthquake, personal commentary on Japan’s devasting earthquake and tsunami on 3/11/2011, my emergency prep supplies, what I’ve learned from other preppers, from the average person to the most extreme “Doomsday” preppers. A good informative video. I think you will reach a lot of people and you have great recommendations. The 1994 quake is certainly something I will never forget, and am always grateful we came through ok. You have done a wonderful job of securing your furniture and putting up bungi straps on the bookcases. I love your thoughtfulness.
