Hello and Welcome to my Writing World! My pen-name is Becca B. I’m a self-published author with my first children’s memoir entitled “The ‘Almost’ Halloween Baby”. This was a personal gift to my brother, who was born the day before Halloween. I started my writing journey last year, and thanks to a publishing consultant and illustration company, my first children’s book is ready to launch!
I’m an avid reader, and I’ve taught secondary education. I enjoy painting, singing, writing (well typing) and performing live theater whenever I can. This new venture was in the works over six years ago, when I was hired as a secondary teacher to teach both English and Visual Arts. (See RESUME & ERWC Certificate Below) Around the time I started teaching was also the time I tried the PopSugar Reading Challenge. To this day, I’ve never been able to complete all 52 book tasks. I currently juggle between being a part-time tutor (online/in person) and behavior technician.
On how “The ‘Almost’ Halloween Baby came to be. This last year my health took an unexpected turn, and I had to have to resign from my position, and move back home to recover. While recovering from major surgery, I consulted both a publishing and illustration company to have my brother’s story created and published. It was a personal gift for him, as he celebrates his birthday just before Halloween. The process takes time, but I’ve learned so much. I decided to use my nickname, “Becca B” as the pen-name, and I’ve been working on some new story ideas, which means there’s more stories to come.
My YouTube channel is @BeccaB-TheBookDragon and my video podcast is “Becca’s Book TALKS”. I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing several authors and other professionals who are avid readers. They help share their favorite reads, book recommendations, share their message about book bans and other perspectives about our current reading community. You can also check them out on Spotify. I also create other videos based on the PopSugar Reading Challenge, recommending books to avid readers who are or who might be interested, and recently, museum trips, book hauls, and creating junk journals. Don’t forget to like, comment, share and subscribe to my channel so I can continue to make videos and spread the message about reading and make art projects.
Another little gem: I sing! My vocal ‘fach’ is mezzo-soprano, and I’ve performed in college choirs (Les Chanteuse and the Chamber Singers at COC), and a high school classmate of mine helped me get involved with a semi-professional community theater group, Ventura County Gilbert & Sullivan Repetoire Company, of which I performed with her in “The Mikado” and “Iolanthe” before teaching took over. I returned to the valley, and I joined her again with the San Fernando Valley Master Chorale in Spring of 2023. You may watch our shows by going to our site. Enjoy and come support this amazing group of performers.
