A Little Gem…I Sing!

Hello to my fellow readers. I just updated my “About” page to add a little note about the fact that I sing. 2 years ago, I had thyroid surgery, and they had to cut into my neck to do whatever was necessary. 5 days later, the surgeon sent me message, saying it was a good thing they did. I had a micro-papillary carcinoma, so I’m on cancer watch until 2031 and I’m on thyroid medication so that it doesn’t come back. I was shocked, but also dismayed that my breathing, and my voice was compromised in both speaking and talking, and the most enigmatic was my writing was affected as well. You can watch my YouTube video about my writing issues here: https://youtu.be/HUZYGYl-mGg?si=vItr2-45pDm16AxN. Later, this past October, I had an adult tonsillectomy, and I’ve had trouble with this throat irritation since. However, I was so worried that my ability to sing was over. It’s still a struggle, but thank goodness the ENT said that singing practice will help it along. I joined the San Fernando Valley Master Chorale in the Spring, and you can watch our performances by going to our main site: https://www.sfvmc.com/, Recently, we performed our “Cabaret in the Valley” (it was supposed to be in June), and there was some wiggle room for open auditions. I sang 2 songs, and the one they chose me to sing was from the musical Chess: “Nobody’s Side”, which is a well-known show-stopper. It’s a good thing I had access to the microphone, because there’s no way I would’ve been able to sing the way I did. But…you can judge for yourself by the audience’s reaction. The choir members were shocked, and I felt so elated with their praise. I love them all so much! You may watch our performance here on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ghMgeFXfZs. At the time 40:34, it’s my performance. Come out and support this amazing group of performers that I’m blessed to be part of.

Book Reviews Needed!

Here’s to all my subscribers who have bought the children’s book. Leaving reviews on Amazon is a surefire way to help my book reach #1 in a book category. This is how most books get promoted to the top. It’s greatly appreciated. If you haven’t bought the book, it is on sale for a limited time, so be sure to grab your copy now before the sale ends. Also, if you know of anyone interested in children’s book for Halloween, please spread the word about my children’s book. I’ve also reached out to my local library to see about doing a public reading. Thank you.

Lastly, I’m trying to add digital freebies to the first subscribers who subscribe to my author site until the end of October. I will post them once they’re up. WordPress is still new to me, and I’ve some kinks to work out.

Video Podcast is Back On!!!

After being dormant since April, the podcast is back in action! Stay tuned for my next interview, this time with one of my favorite YouTube influencers. With Halloween just around the corner, you won’t want to miss this. FYI- all podcasts are not live, for now. I record and edit them prior to posting.

As an educator, I taught Arthur Miller’s play “The Crucible” to my students around Halloween, and also brought in different outside resources such as the backstory of witches in America, the infamous “witch hunts” and McCarthyism. Another story that was a great resource was Katherine Howe’s “The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane”, which then lead me to understand what a physick book really was. The author herself is a descendant of Elizabeth Howe and Elizabeth Proctor, two of the accused “witches” of Salem. The study of witches didn’t end there.

This YouTuber, known as Forest & Fawn (the former Lipstick Legion Craft) is a practicing “art” witch who focuses on spirituality, creating, and recently, motherhood. I started watching her channel because she created a homemade grimoire, which was aesthetically beautiful. Some of her earlier videos were about junk journaling, and I have her to thank for introducing me to the designer Tim Holtz. Instead of the religious trinity of the father, the son, and holy ghost, it was mother, maiden, and crone. I became fascinated with the studies of pagan goddesses and their seasons, witchery types, spiritual intentions, the power of nature, the Witches Moon subscription boxes, and most of all- her Dollar-ween craft tutorials and knowledge of the different herbs and crystals used for spiritual healing that’s been used for centuries. More questions to follow.

Part 5 of the Rainbow Junk Journal

Creating junk journals has become a new favorite thing for me. It’s also very therapeutic, which is what I’ve needed these last few months. Making this handmade journal for a dear family friend who underwent an amazing transformation was an honor and privilege. Here’s part 5 of the Making of the Rainbow Junk Journal. You can also watch the other making of art journals under the tab “Becca’s Craft Creations” on my YouTube channel. https://youtu.be/ipTbdiF3gkw?si=GyW9-srU2rbBkXIM
